LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, April 9, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- A sheriff’s deputy forced a female inmate to perform sex acts on March 31 at the West County Detention Facility in Richmond, Calif., according to the woman’s attorney at West Coast Trial Lawyers.

Days later, the Contra Costa Sheriff’s office arrested Deputy Sheriff Patrick Morseman and booked him for engaging in sexual activity with a consenting adult in a detention facility, a crime in California.

“Although the sheriff’s office described the unlawful sex as consensual, the truth is my client was threatened and forced to engage in both oral and vaginal sex against her will,” said Neama Rahmani, president of West Coast Trial Lawyers. “She was too frightened at the time of the rape to resist or to immediately report the assault to authorities at the facility, and she’s still terrified to discuss what happened.”

According to the victim, Morseman allowed her and another inmate to meet in the other woman’s cell. In the early hours of Saturday, March 31, Morseman entered the cell, closed the door and threatened the women, saying they would “do more time” if they did not do what he wanted. He then raped both women, says the client.

Afraid to report the assaults, the women collected the semen evidence and gave it the following Monday to a lawyer representing another inmate. That lawyer alerted authorities. The women were then transported to the Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center in Martinez for examination and treatment, although the medical results have not been disclosed. Detectives taking the client’s statement attempted to coerce her to accept blame for the assault, the victim says.

“While we appreciate that the sheriff’s office acted to identify and arrest the suspect, it’s clear the office has yet to conduct a complete and thorough investigation,” says Rahmani. “We plan to ensure that none of the details of the sexual assault are overlooked and that our client receives the compassion due any victim of sexual violence and the justice she deserves.”
