Highlights
- Most of Southern Africa experienced erratic rainfall, delayed start of rainy season and extended midseason dry-spell from December to February which have wilted early planted crops in the region.
- In March 2018, significant rainfall was received in central and eastern parts of South Africa.
- The ‘watch’ status in southern Malawi, south-eastern Mozambique, western and southern Madagascar, and central and southern Zambia has deteriorated to ‘poor’. The ‘watch’ status in Swaziland, north-eastern South Africa, and central Mozambique has improved to ‘favourable’.
- Results from the April/May annual vulnerability assessments are expected at the end of June (see calendar on page 6).
