One dead, multiple injured after 5.8-magnitude earthquake shakes Turkey

(CBS, KYMA/KECY) - A 14-year-old girl died and multiple people were injured after a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Turkey in the early hours of June 3, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said.

According to Yerlikaya, the earthquake occurred near Marmaris, a coastal town popular for tourism in southwestern Turkey.

The 14-year-old girl, named as Afranur Gunlu, was rushed to hospital after suffering a panic attack during the earthquake in the port city of Fethiye. She died despite medical efforts, Yerlikaya said.

Yerlikaya said a number of people were treated for injuries.

Footage captured by Instagram user @mr.softwareengineer shows a lamp swinging at the time of the quake. The source said he was in the town of Dalaman.
