It’s time to check out of The White Lotus.
Season 3 of the HBO show is coming to its conclusion on Sunday night, and fans are working overtime to come up with theories about who might meet their end in the finale — and who could be a potential killer.
With tension surrounding Russian thieves, looming embezzlement charges for the Ratliff family and a runaway murderer tied to a previous season of Mike White’s hit show, options abound for the ending of this season, set on the Thai island of Koh Samui.
Some characters — like beloved spa entrepreneur Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) and hotel employee Mook (played by K-pop superstar Lisa) — appear to be more innocent compared to others, like the gaggle of gal pals that seem ready to tear each other apart from limb to limb. And of course, a handful seem downright dangerous.
Fans know White doesn’t do anything without purpose, so of course there would be clues hidden in the wardrobe, curated by head costume designer Alex Bovaird.
“We have a little bit of a rule … there are no jeans [and] not a lot of black,” the fashion pro, who’s worked on all three seasons of “The White Lotus” show and received three Emmy nominations for her work, told Page Six Style in a recent interview. “[We] don’t really repeat clothes.”
Which makes a keen eye even more important. Below, we break down all the potential Easter eggs hidden in the show’s clothing — and what they could mean for each character’s fate.
Chelsea
It should come as no surprise to “Sex Education” fans that Aimee Lou Wood’s Chelsea has become somewhat of the breakout star of the season. Not only is her lovable, bohemian personality the perfect counter to much-older brooding boyfriend Rick (Walton Goggins), but her Brigitte Bardot- and Kate Moss inspired wardrobe is downright fun.
However, she’s been troubled with bad luck, already brushing close to death twice between an armed robbery and a venomous snake bite — plus, she’s said bad things come in three.
And her signature necklace, a diamond-studded dog tag stamped with the phrase “Stay Gold,” could be foreboding on its own.
The $5,101 Luna Flo London piece was inspired by an iconic line from “The Outsiders,” but also references Robert Frost’s poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” casting Chelsea’s sunny personality in darkness.
The poem reads, “Nature’s first green is gold, / Her hardest hue to hold. / Her early leaf’s a flower; / But only so an hour. / Then leaf subsides to leaf. / So Eden sank to grief, / So dawn goes down to day. / Nothing gold can stay.”
Can Chelsea make it out of Thailand alive and stay truly golden? We fear she tops our list for Season 3’s most likely victim.
Rick
While Goggins’ Rick might seem on the surface to be itching for violence — he did wave a gun in an elderly man’s face, after all — he’s proven that he’s more wounded than aggressive. Case in point: After coming face to face with the man he believes murdered his father, Rick walked away.
And his fashion choices don’t exactly scream “hardened killer”; most of his vacation closet consists of vintage Hawaiian-style button-up shirts and some relaxed yet elevated jewelry.
Chloe
Ah, to be the gorgeous model girlfriend of a rich older man with a yacht. Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon) appears to be living the easy life — never mind that aforementioned beau Gary/Greg (Jon Gries) is hiding the fact that his late wife Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) met her untimely end by his hand in Season 2.
Thanks to Gary/Greg’s shady money, Chloe is seen sporting a gorgeous pink Jacquemus one-piece and sheer sarong on a boat by day and a vintage Versace mini at his mega-mansion by night, suggesting she could be in on his scheme.
But there are still remnants of more simple days in her wardrobe, like the “Simpsons” necklace she wears in Episode 3.
Eagle-eyed fans have connected the Maggie Simpson-shaped pendant to the Fox show’s 1995 episode “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” — in which the infant is eventually revealed as the one who killed the evil bald businessman. (Sound familiar?)
Let’s mark Chloe on the suspect list if Gary/Greg finally meets his demise, whether they’re working together to scam the White Lotus guests or not.
Lochlan
The youngest Ratliff is perhaps the most confused about his identity, and his outfit choices reflect as much. Lochlan (Sam Nivola) dabbles in extremes, from losing his virginity to Chloe to partaking in an incestuous tryst with brother Saxon to considering monkhood with sister Piper.
He starts the series seeming like the voice of reason, complete with a “Talk to Me About a Reality Check” graphic tee. Another shirt, however, foreshadows his shocking three-way hookup.
During that infamous scene, Lochlan sports (and then strips out of) a Tombolo top covered in alligators and called — you can’t make this up — Reptile Dysfunction.
His watch, a glow-in-the-dark collaboration between luxury brand Omega and Swatch depicting Saturn’s rings, perfectly encapsulates the 18-year-old’s naivete and privilege. It’s part of a line of other planetary watches, so the choice to put Lochlan in one featuring this particular planet — which represents karma, lessons in life, discipline and responsibility — seems pointed.
Timothy and Victoria
With their obvious wealth, Southern sensibilities and distinctly hoity-toity attire, parents Timothy (Jason Isaacs) and Victoria Ratliff (Parker Posey) are among Season’s 3 most memorable characters.
On the surface, the couple are self-medicating with whiskey and lorazepam (stored in a vintage Louis Vuitton purse, naturally) and at odds over whether Lochlan should attend Duke or UNC Chapel Hill for college. Meanwhile, Timothy is hiding embezzlement charges that are likely to send him to prison.
But judging by their wristwear, the pair are more in sync than they seem.
Both Timothy and Victoria wear gold Rolex Day Date-40 watches; his with a dark face, hers with a light one. Perhaps it’s a hint that the couple’s fates are forever intertwined — even if they’re as different as night and day.
Saxon
Eldest Ratliff son Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) arrives at the resort rocking a Hublot Big Bang Unico Black Magic wristwatch that retails for $23,000 — a choice that practically screams money.
The hyper-masculine (and hyper-pricey) design is a far cry from his parents’ refined timepieces. But interestingly, the Duke grad later swaps it for shiny silver Rolex Milgauss, a model created in the ’50s for scientists and engineers.
Perhaps there’s more hidden beneath Saxon’s surface; could he truly change his misogynistic ways with the help of Chelsea’s astrology books?
Sritala
Talk about loud money. Sritala (Lek Patravadi), the owner of Thailand’s White Lotus, is positively dripping in diamonds, emeralds and all manner of precious gems.
Among her standout pieces is a David Webb brooch in the shape of a monkey that resold for a casual $28,560 on 1stdibs. The animals have been a recurring theme this season; might they factor into the finale?
When it comes to watches, Sritala skips those from Cartier and Rolex in favor of a Jacob & Co. Fleurs de Jardin design worth a whopping $380,000.
Hardly meant to actually tell time, the timepiece is shaped like a butterfly pollinating flowers in a colorful, absolutely decadent display of sapphires. It’s the kind of jewelry that boggles the mind.
Fabian
Could the mumbling hotel manager/wannabe singer be hiding something? Fabian (Christian Friedel) mostly appears in his luxury hotel uniform, but we can glean some hints from his other possessions.
Take his Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph watch — which retails for $22,400 — and his BMW 7 Series. Not too shabby for a manager, five-star hotel or not.
Jaclyn, Kate and Laurie
Though it appears the trio of messed-up friends are entangled with some shady Russians who orchestrated a armed robbery on the hotel’s jewelry collection and later tried to swindle money from them, we think Jaclyn, Kate and Laurie are more likely to continue torturing each other than kill (or be killed).
Still, you’ll find plenty of clues about their hierarchy hidden in their vacation wardrobes.
TV star Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) is rarely seen without a designer logo, emphasizing her need to be seen and given attention (hello, one-night fling with Valentin!). Her most notable look? A sequin-covered Valentino minidress that could, in brand alone, have hinted at her hookup with Valentin. It’s rainbow-colored, extra-short and going for $11,000 on eBay.
In her perfect floral sundresses that flash a little vacation cleavage, Kate (Leslie Bibb) dresses every inch the Dallas independent voter with a conservative husband.
Meanwhile, Carrie Coon told Marie Claire that NYC lawyer Laurie — definitely the Miranda of the group, in “Sex and the City” speak — is meant to look a little “off,” from her nail polish to her frizzy hair.
“What was important to me is that while she is in resort clothing, she maybe didn’t pack as well … Her clothes feel a little bit off,” Coon said. “Her hat’s a little dowdy but necessary because she’s not going to get sun. It was important to me that her nail color feel a little bit weird.”
Bovaird also told Marie Claire that while Jaclyn and Kate came to the retreat with a wide array of luxury bags from the likes of Delvaux and Valentino, Laurie packed lighter with practicality in mind, bringing just one Loewe Squeeze — a $4,900 style that’s newer to the market, suggesting she may have made a trendy purchase to impress her pals.
While Laurie ends Episode 7 vulnerable and alone at night on the streets of Thailand with a con man on her tail, we think (or at least hope) she’s smart enough to pull the escape hatch.
Valentin
All eyes will certainly be on Valentin, the strapping young Russian “health coach” who secretly shacked up with Jaclyn — and whom security guard Gaitok finally clocked as part of the trio who robbed the hotel in Episode 2.
He’s often seen in his standard-issue uniform, but wears a somewhat mysterious Russian watch: a Vostok Amphibian model that may indicate his ultimate allegiance to friends Aleksei and Vlad.
