Officer-involved shooting suspect charged with attempted murder
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The suspect who was arrested Tuesday after an officer-involved shooting and a pursuit on I-29 has been criminally charged.
25-year-old Samir Yasser Albaidhani of Sioux Falls is facing a charge for attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, two charges for aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer and committing a felony carrying a firearm.

These charges stem from a shooting that took place in west Sioux Falls on Tuesday afternoon.
A Sioux Falls Police officer was struck by gunfire after the Violent Crimes Unit attempted to take Albaidhani into custody for parole absconding and he produced a firearm and shot at officers.
Albaidhani fled the scene in a vehicle. A South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper and Albaidhani had exchanged fire until he was apprehended on Interstate 29 near the Beresford exit.
The SFPD officer’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening and they are currently recovering.
Investigators have not given an update on Albaidhani’s condition.
According to Lieutenant Nick Butler, the officers involved in the shooting have asked to invoke their Marsy’s Law protections. These are protections afforded to all victims of crimes to protect their identity.
Albaidhani’s bond was set at $1 million with conditions of good behavior, to stay in contact with his attorney, make all court appearances, no weapons, alcohol, or drugs, and no contact with the victim or their family.
A judge is sealing court documents from Albaidhani’s case until his first appearance in court.
