The Guam U17 Women’s National Team made it two for two, with a 3-0 win in the second of two friendly soccer matches against Saudi Arabia played Monday evening at the Prince Mohammed Bin Fahad Bin Abdulaziz Stadium in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, according to the Guam Football Association.

“I am so proud of this team and each and everyone’s notable growth and development over the course of a little over a month with preparations leading up to these two matches in Saudi Arabia,” Chyna Ramirez, Guam U17 Women’s National Team head coach, said.

Ramirez said the players adapted well to the new environment and represented Guam well on and off the pitch.

“In the end, these two wins during this training camp really were bonuses for them, rewards for their commitment to the Guam National Program,” she said. “This valuable experience and the memories made will surely stay with them for years to come.”

Guam led 1-0 at halftime, thanks to a strike by Amira Walker midway through the first half on a goalmouth scramble following a Caden Milner corner kick.

Hinengi San Nicolas later doubled Guam’s advantage in the second half off a low header.

Minutes later, Orung Santos delivered a left-footed shot from the left side that ricocheted off the opposite post into the goal.

Earning the clean sheet for Guam was goalkeeper Feah Fejeran.

“It was a pretty big surprise for me when I scored that goal,” Santos said. “I was already hurting with my right, so my only option on that play was to take it with my left – I took the chance and at first I wasn’t sure if the ball went in or not. It was an amazing experience that I got to celebrate with my teammates.”

Ramirez, the head coach, thanked GFA for accepting the invitation from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation for this camp for the players.

“I also would like to thank SAFF for the hospitality in making sure we were well taken care of to deliver optimal performances for the sport’s supporters in Saudi Arabia,” Ramirez added.

Santos said the experience in Saudi Arabia was “really good.”

“It was a fun experience to challenge a new team in a different environment, a different country,” Santos said. “I really want to thank SAFF and U.S. Embassy and U.S. Consulate General here in Saudi Arabia for making this more comfortable for us to be here, GFA for coordinating them, plus my family and everyone in Guam that brought us here. The team really enjoyed this opportunity.”

Among spectators in attendance at the second friendly match was Consul General James Sindle of the U.S. Consulate General Dhahran, and Laila Gillam, public affairs officer of the U.S. Consulate General Dhahran.

Following the match, Sindle and Gillam met each of the players and staff and took photos with the team.

The team also exchanged gifts with the Saudi Arabian team after the match.

The team departs Saudi Arabia Tuesday evening.
